Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 2025
Introduction
Welcome to Jurno! This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a safe platform for journaling and community engagement.
Key Definitions
- Journal: A private or public entry created by a user.
- Journey: The period as designated by the author that a Journal can be viewed publicly, including by non-registered visitors.
1. Information We Collect
- Account Information: Usernames, email addresses, and names provided via the Authentication Provider (e.g., Google, Apple) during account creation. The user may also add or change this post account creation.
- Location Information: IP addresses for approximate location lookup, and optionally specific locations shared by users in their Journals.
- Journal Entries: Both private Journals and publicly submitted Journeying Journals.
- Optional Information: Users may choose to include nicknames and locations in their Journeying Journals.
- Tokens: Tokens contain a history of the Journeying Journals they were added to but only show names and locations authors submitted publicly.
2. How We Use Your Information
User data is used only for authentication purposes. It is not used for enabling reporting, moderation, or engagement features. In the event of account deletion, encrypted hashes of email addresses are retained solely for account recovery or user safety purposes. This limited retention ensures both platform security and protects users.
3. User Rights
- Data Access & Deletion: Users can delete their accounts and data at any time. Upon deletion, all visible identifiers (such as usernames, pen names, and avatars) are replaced with “[Deleted]” to anonymize the content. Encrypted hashes of email addresses are retained solely for account recovery or user safety purposes. These cannot be reverse-engineered to identify you. Account recovery or full data deletion is only possible through a verified support request.
- Journal Management: Users cannot edit Journals after submission but may delete them entirely.
- Account Security: We recommend safeguarding login credentials to prevent unauthorized access.
4. Data Sharing
We do not share user data with any third parties. Tokens and Journeying Journals do not contain identifiable metadata linking back to users.
5. Security
Our data is encrypted at rest and in transit. When accounts are deleted, their identifiers are hashed and stored securely, cannot be reverse-engineered to identify users, and are accessible only to authorized personnel. While we employ industry-standard measures to secure user data, users should exercise caution when sharing sensitive information in public Journeys.
6. Updates to the Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When updates occur, we will notify users via email. Continued use of Jurno after such updates will indicate your acceptance of the revised policy.
