Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 2025
Introduction
Welcome to Jurno! This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring a safe platform for journaling and community engagement.
Key Definitions
- Journey: The user-controlled period that a Journal can be viewed publicly, including by non-registered visitors.
- Letter: A private message written by a registered user to the author of a Journal that is public, and allows letters.
- Report: A user-submitted alert on content they believe violates the Terms of Service.
1. Information We Collect
- Account Information: Email addresses provided via the Authentication Provider (e.g., Google, Apple, email magic-link) during account creation.
- Location Information: City-level location lookup for Journals and Letters.
- Journal Entries: Both private Journals and publicly shared Journals.
- Optional Information: Users may choose to include pen names and custom locations in their Journals.
- Reports: Users may submit reports on specific content or through the Contact form in their profile.
2. How We Use Your Information
User data is used for authentication purposes. In the event of account deletion, encrypted hashes of email addresses are retained solely for account recovery or user safety purposes. This limited retention ensures both platform security and user protection. Location information is used to provide a personalized experience while protecting identity. Reports are used to investigate potential breaches of Terms of Service and retained for records. In limited cases, and only with your consent, we may use limited usage and technical data to understand how people discover and interact with Jurno.
3. User Rights
- Data Access & Deletion: Users can delete their accounts and data at any time. Upon deletion, all visible identifiers (such as usernames, pen names, and avatars) are replaced with “[Deleted]” to anonymize the content. Encrypted hashes of email addresses are retained solely for account recovery or user safety purposes. These cannot be reverse-engineered to identify you. Account recovery or full data deletion is only possible through a verified support request.
- Journal Management: Users can edit Journals after saving or sharing, or delete them entirely.
- Journey Management: Users may end Journeys early, and restart if they choose.
- Account Security: We recommend safeguarding login credentials to prevent unauthorized access.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties for their own use. In limited cases, we use trusted services (such as authentication providers and analytics tools) to operate and improve Jurno. These services process only the minimum data necessary and are not given access to your journal content.
5. Security
Our data is encrypted at rest and in transit. When accounts are deleted, their identifiers are hashed and stored securely, cannot be reverse-engineered to identify users, and are accessible only to authorized personnel. While we employ industry-standard measures to secure user data, users should exercise caution when sharing sensitive information in public Journals.
6. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for essential operation and, if you allow, for marketing measurement through Google Ads. This helps us understand whether new visitors find Jurno useful and how we can improve the way we introduce Jurno to others. Non-essential tracking is optional, and you can accept or decline it through our consent banner. We do not use your private Journals, public Journals, Letters, or Reports for advertising or ad targeting.
7. Updates to the Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When updates occur, we will notify users via email. Continued use of Jurno after such updates will indicate your acceptance of the revised policy.
